This apparatus is a module designed for connection to an external Hydraulic Bench. Its purpose is to study the flow of water through various orifices and mouthpieces under constant head conditions, allowing for the experimental determination of discharge coefficients and velocity coefficients.

1. Key Components and Design

The apparatus uses a constant head tank and a gauge for precise measurement of the jet's characteristics.

  • Water Tank: The tank has a Suitable Capacity and is made of Stainless Steel.
    • It includes an inlet supply diffuser and an overflow outlet.
    • It has an arrangement to vary the water head and keep it constant at the desired experimental level.
  • Orifice/Mouthpiece Holder: Provision is made for fitting either an orifice or a mouthpiece at the same outlet position.
  • Interchangeable Flow Devices (Material: Acrylic):
    • Orifices (2 Nos.): Diameter (Dia.) 10 mm and 15 mm.
    • Mouthpieces (3 Nos., all Dia. 10 mm): These vary by their Length-to-Diameter ratio (L/D): L/D = 2.5, L/D = 4, and L/D = 1.
  • Jet Measurement: A Hook/Pointer Gauge arrangement is fitted to measure the X-Y co-ordinates of the Jet Trajectory.

2. Experimental Purpose

The primary goal is to determine the efficiency and flow parameters of the various outlets.

  1. Coefficient of Discharge (Cd): Determine Cd for each device by comparing the theoretical discharge with the actual discharge (measured using the Hydraulic Bench's volumetric system).
  2. Coefficient of Velocity (Cv): Determine Cv by analyzing the measured parabolic X-Y co-ordinates of the jet trajectory.
  3. Coefficient of Contraction (Cc): Calculate Cc using the relationship Cc = Cd / Cv.
