Losses Due to Friction in Pipe Lines (Hb Accessory)

Product Code : SCL-CELE-14026

This equipment is a specialized module designed to be connected to an external Hydraulic Bench. Its purpose is to demonstrate the principles of flow distribution and head loss due to friction when two pipes of different diameters are connected in parallel.

1. Key Components and Design

The apparatus uses two distinct pipe circuits and instrumentation for pressure measurement.

  • Pipe Test Sections: Two pipes are connected in a parallel configuration.
    • Material: G.I. (Galvanized Iron).
    • Diameters: 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch.
    • Length (each section): 1 meter.
  • Control: Control valves are fitted on each pipe. This allows the operator to isolate one pipe at a time for individual testing or to run both simultaneously.
  • Pressure Measurement:
    • Pressure tapings are provided on each pipe.
    • Device: A Differential Manometer (implied) is used to measure the pressure drop (head loss) across the test section of each pipe.
  • Connection: The module connects to an external Hydraulic Bench by a flexible pipe line.

2. Purpose and Experiments

The primary experiments involve verifying the characteristics of parallel pipe networks.

  1. Friction Loss: Determine the Head Loss due to friction for different flow rates in both the 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch pipes individually.
  2. Darcy-Weisbach Verification: Use the measured head loss and flow rate to calculate the Friction Factor for each pipe.
  3. Parallel Flow Principle: Demonstrate that when the pipes operate in parallel, the total head loss across both paths is the same, and the total flow rate is the sum of the flow rates in the individual pipes.
