Overview
The Drainage and Seepage Tank Demonstrator
is a self-contained training unit designed to study and visualize flow
through permeable media such as soils and sands. It allows comprehensive
investigation of drainage and seepage behavior, flow patterns,
and uplift pressure distributions under various hydraulic conditions.
The apparatus features a transparent
toughened glass front panel for clear observation of flow lines and seepage
paths, supported by a non-corrosive aluminum rear panel that allows easy
insertion of pressure tapping points. Two adjustable overflow outlets maintain
a constant water level during operation. A dye injection system enables
detailed visualization of flow paths and potential seepage zones.
Water is circulated from an integrated sump
tank via a centrifugal pump with flow control valves for precise
adjustment. The system is supported by an optional DAQ interface and
LabView-based “Sci-Cal” software for data acquisition and analysis.
