Darcys Law Apparatus Manufacturer,Supplier and Exporter in India
Product Code : SCL-CELE-14012
This equipment is a self-contained water recirculating
unit designed to experimentally study the flow of water through a porous
medium (a packed bed). The primary goal is to investigate the relationship
between flow rate and the resulting pressure drop across the medium,
which is fundamental to models like Darcy's Law.
1. Key Components and Design
The central piece of the apparatus is the test section where
the flow resistance is measured.
- Test
Section: A cylindrical column filled with the porous medium.
- Material: Stainless
Steel.
- Dimensions:
Diameter 120 mm (approx.), Height 500 mm.
- Pressure
Measurement: Pressure tappings are provided to measure
the pressure difference (pressure drop) across the porous medium using a differential
manometer.
- Flow
Control: A Flow control valve and a bypass valve
are fitted to enable conducting the experiment at different, controlled
flow rates.
2. Water Circulation and Flow Rate Measurement
A volumetric method is used as the high-accuracy reference
for flow rate.
- Water
Circulation: Provided by an FHP Pump (Crompton make).
- Sump
Tank: 50 Liters capacity. All tanks are made of Stainless
Steel.
- Flow
Rate Measurement (Actual Flow):
- Achieved
using a Measuring Tank (25 Liters (approx.) capacity).
- An Electronic
Stop Watch is used to measure the time required to collect a known
volume, calculating the actual discharge (Q actual).
3. Purpose and Experiments
The main objective is to understand how fluid movement is
impeded by a packed bed.
- Pressure
Drop Study: Determine the relationship between the flow
rate and the resulting head loss across the porous medium.
- Permeability
Determination: Calculate the permeability of the porous
medium material.
- Equation
Verification: Verify the applicability of flow models, such as
Darcy's Law, to the specific porous medium and flow conditions.
